I recently got the chance to interview Jeff Moore lead singer for Pocono, an indie rock band hailing from Nashville, TN. Here’s what he had to say:
LML) How, when and where did Pocono meet/form? Is there a story behind the band’s name?
Jeff) Pocono came together last winter when our old band was on tour. Matt, Deeyon, and I (Jeff) were in the same band and our guitarist at the time quit like 4 days before a month long tour. So we were kind of freaking out and were lucky that Lee filled in for us. He was in another band at the time and we asked him if he wanted to be a part of this new project we were working on and he luckily he decided to! When we were thinking of names for the band as went through a lot. We wanted to do something that felt organic and reflected our vibe and Pocono stood out. We love the mountains and the name.
LML) How long has the band been together?
Jeff) The band really got going in the summer of 2012. We recorded the record and got working on the other aspects of the band to get everything together for the release we had in February. We have been friends/playing together for years before this. I think that’s what made us so excited about it. Surrounding yourself with good people is so important.
LML) Who are the members of the band and what instruments do they play?
Jeff Moore - Vocals
Matt Jaikaran - Guitar
Lee Morton - Guitar
Deeyon Kamtarin - Bass
Alex Jackson - Drums
LML) What style of music would you categorize Pocono as? What kind of audience are you aiming at?
Jeff) We would categorize Pocono as indie/rock.  We are aiming for 18+ crowd. College to adult. We are in our 20’s so we definitely focus the most there. We definitely want everyone to love it.
LML) Who/what influences/inspires the band to create music?
Jeff) I think what inspires us is just out insane love for music. We have all given up careers and college for this because we love it so much. We listen to a lot of music so definitely that is an inspiration as well. Acts like Local Natives, Bahamas, etc. are big influences.
LML) Talk a little bit about Pocono’s self titled EP. What’s the story behind the album?
Jeff) We are really proud and stoked on our new EP. With this EP we felt like we were finally making music we are proud of again. We didn’t want to focus on going for any specific sound or style. The EP really is a product of all the change going on in our lives. For myself, a lot of the lyrical content focuses of the changes going on in my life at the time. From ending a long-term relationship to starting the band. There was a lot to talk about haha. We went in the studio with our friend Jeremy Clark and he was awesome to work with. We had to sit on the EP for a couple of months before we were ready to release it and that time sucked. We are just really happy with everything.
LML) What are your future plans for Pocono? Tours? New songs in the works?
Jeff) Right now we are working on getting more shows together and just playing our butts off. We are working on getting a tour together right now. Fingers crossed. We have a lot of new song ideas. That’s something we are constantly working on. We plan on recording more songs in the next couple of months!

Want a copy of Pocono’s self-titled EP? You can get your copy on iTunes or Bandcamp. If you want to get updates from the band on upcoming shows or news, you can follow them on twitter, tumblr, or subscribe to their Facebook fan page.
Thanks again to Jeff Moore for letting me interview him. Keep up the great work and keep on rocking Pocono!
